Will “Spank” Horton high-spirited brand of comedy has earned him the admiration of his peers by winning over fans from Philadelphia to International audiences across the globe with his uniquely animated stage shows.
Born in Brooklyn but raised in Philadelphia, Horton had his sights on the NBA, but in college his acting skills and comic charisma resonated so much with his drama professor that they urged him to pursue a career in comedy. It wasn’t until 2001 when a friend dared Horton to take the stage at the Laff House Comedy Club in South Philadelphia that Horton’s love for laughter was ignited to a new level. Horton made his network debut on BET’s Comic View in 2002, just six months after he started his career as a comedian, quickly evolved into one of the most popular and successful college and comedy club acts, performing at more than 100 universities and in countries all over the globe.
His career gained major momentum as he began touring with comedian Kevin Hart, opening for Kevin on the I’m Grown Little Man, Seriously Funny, Laugh At My Pain, Let Me Explain, and What Now tours. Horton also had a supporting role in the subsequent and highly successful Laugh At My Pain Tour concert feature film. Other film and TV credits include Ride Along (Universal), and WILD N’OUT (MTV). Horton Currently also tours as part of the comedy trio the Plastic Cup Boyz, whose comedy special debuted on Comedy Central and can also be seen on Netflix. Before comedy became a priority, Horton endeavored to play for the NBA and played basketball for Simon Gratz High School in North Philadelphia, the same school retired NBA notables Rasheed Wallace and Aaron McKie played for. The basketball team went on to score in the Top 20 of high school teams in the country during Horton's time there.
Horton continued his NBA pursuit and attended Lincoln University as a Communications major and played a short stint on the college basketball team. But Horton's acting skills and comic charisma resonated so much with his professors in his drama classes that they urged Horton to foray into stand-up comedy as a way to break into acting. It wasn't until 2001 when a friend dared Horton to take the stage at the Laff House Comedy Club in South Philadelphia that Horton's love for laughter was ignited to a new level.
Horton is currently one of the most respected headliners in comedy and his career gained major momentum in 2011 when he was featured in the box-office hit movie Laugh at My Pain, starring comedian Kevin Hart, a movie based on the record-breaking comedy tour. The movie grossed more than $2 million in its opening weekend.Horton made his network debut on BET's Comic View in 2002, just six months after he started his career as a comedian. Horton went on to perform at various comedy venues and landed a spot on Coming to the Stage in 2004 and was a semifinalist.
In 2005 Horton was a runner up in the Bud Light comedy competition. And in 2008 he returned to BET and performed on the One Night Comedy Stand. Horton has also quickly evolved into one of the most popular and successful college acts, performing at more than 100 colleges and universities. Horton's extensive tour schedule has taken him overseas and in 2010 he performed for the troops in Korea.Before his big-screen debut, Horton toured with comedian Kevin Hart and was the opening act on the I'm a Grown Little Man tour for four years. He went on to open for Hart on the Seriously Funny comedy tour, and subsequently the Laugh at my Pain and Let me Explain tours. The Laugh at my Pain tour was turned into the successful full-length feature movie with Horton showcasing his acting skills by performing skits alongside Hart and other fellow comedians.
Since then Horton has continued to electrify audiences as one of the hosts of the biggest comedy tour ever, the What Now comedy tour. He also took on a major movie role as a car jack victim in the hugely popular Ride Along movie. He appeared on two episodes of MTV's Wildin Out and was a recent act on BET's Comic View hosted by comedianne Sommore.Horton has been touring with the Plastic Cup Boy and appeared on the Plastic Cup Boyz Comedy Special which aired on Comedy Central. He expanded his acting repertoire and also performed in the stage play Twisted. Some of his other acting credit includes: an independent movie called Sucka 4 Love, and another independent film called House Sitter in Los Angeles.
Horton's punctuated comedic style and sharp material have proven to be greatly appreciated by his audiences, young and old.
